Venkat and his wife Usha moved to Virginia Beach in 2020 to retire in the Heritage Park neighborhood on Sandbridge Road. Earlier, he worked in the finance industry in New York City. He was a Portfolio Manager helping manage up to $28 billion using financial data and quantitative techniques. He served as Vice President at Oppenheimer Funds, and Managing Director at Trilogy Global Advisors and Chicago Equity Partners. 

Before joining the finance industry, he spent more than a decade as a finance professor teaching and conducting research in various universities around the world. He has taught at Texas Tech University, Southern Methodist University, and Auckland University in New Zealand. 

He is a financial economist with a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Iowa, and an M.S. in finance from the University of Utah. Originally from India, he came to the USA 43 years ago, and he and his family are naturalized citizens.
